In addition to the powerful functionality and reliability of PLCs, many application operations also require additional features such as flexibility and multi-functionality in their controllers. To this end, GE Intelligent Platforms developed VersaMax PLC, an important member of the innovative control family. It consists of a powerful CPU and a wide range of I/O modules, terminals and power supplies. In addition, its communication module can also be connected to various networks.
The VersaMax family of products provides distributed I/O and expands PLC and PC-based architectures. Designed for industrial and commercial automation, VersaMax I/O provides a versatile, flexible I/O system for local and remote control solutions. VersaMax PLC provides the features of large PLCs, with rich I/O modules and optional modules. VersaMax I/O stations with network interface modules can be flexibly connected to other networks. VersaMax meets UL, CUL, CE, Class1 Zone 2 and Class I Division 2 standards.
As an automation solution with a scalable architecture, VersaMax I/O combines compactness and modularity with great ease of use. The VersaMax I/O module is only 70mm deep and its small base makes it easy to install and save space. Each module has up to 32 I/O points.
The compact and modular VersaMax features DIN rail mounting and can accommodate up to 8 I/O and optional modules per rack. Each VersaMax PLC or VersaMax I/O station can include up to 8 racks. The maximum distance between the expansion rack and the VersaMax PLC main rack or VersaMax I/O main rack is 750 meters. The expansion rack can be used to install any VersaMax I/O, optional modules, or communications modules.
VersaMax automatically addresses itself, eliminating the need for traditional hardware configuration and handheld programming devices. A variety of optional field wiring terminal blocks support two-wire, three-wire and four-wire equipment. For quick repairs and shortened mean time to repair, the hot-swappable feature allows I/O modules to be added and replaced while field machines and programs are running without affecting field wiring. VersaMax I/O can be used as remote I/O, with Genius, DeviceNet, Profibus and Ethernet remote I/O interface modules.
